Saturday Coffee Cup of the Week 10/31

31 October 2009

You know..sometimes we need something to remind us just how awesome we really are. I am having one of those phases in my personal life right now, where it seems that everything is working to make me believe that I am less than human; not good enough, not attractive enough, not smart enough, not (fill in the blank) enough.

So, this Wonderwoman cup is my pick of the week. :)

Centaur Coffee in Mesquite, Texas

30 October 2009

A little over a month ago I reviewed Cafe Latte at Town East Mall in Mesquite. I only go up there about once a month for a hair appointment so I am totally out of the loop as to the daily goings on. I was surprised when Cafe Latte was no longer there but had been replaced by Centaur Coffee. So…Mesquite residents, here is yet another review. Same location, different owner. Still Indy.

I had a mocha latte breve, because to me if it doesn’t have cream it just isn’t worth drinking. It was (more…)

Homemade Tea Bags

29 October 2009

O.k. browsing the internet today I came across a really cute idea. These homemade tea bags  are just awesome. They would make incredible Christmas gifts for the tea lover for sure.

tea

I found them at Bonzai Aphrodite, which may be added to my top ten, because the blog, images, and stuff is amazing. Hey, you know I am impressed; I said awesome, incredible, and amazing in the first 55 words! Basically you take unbleached cheesecloth and fill it with your own personal tea blend. The result is an adorable, whimsical, cozy looking array of tea bags that would look fantastic in an apothecary jar on the counter!

If you are searching for great ideas check out this one. Make them for yourself or your family and friends (or both).  Pick out some loose leaf teas that seem like they would go together at Teavana or Adagio, or anther good company and then try them in different combinations until you get the ratio you want.

You could even put them in a apothecary jar of some sort and make a label for them with the name of you custom tea on it.  If you grow your own herbs you could even mix your own herbal tea blend.

Wow..thoughts are flowing…NOW I am inspired!

Coffee Slows Liver Damage

26 October 2009

There is some indication that coffee slows liver damage from hepatitis according to the Reuters report I read this afternoon. In a study of 766 people with hepatitis-c related liver damage the coffee drinkers who ingested at least three cups of coffee per day had a 53 percent less chance of the progression of damage over a four year period of time than those who drank less coffee or none at all.

Interesting to note that coffee drinkers seem to have healthier livers over all according to the same report.

So, you want to detox? You probably need to just drink more coffee!

Blue Cow Coffee Shop: The REAL Review

23 October 2009

So, you know I said the other day that we had tried a new coffee place in De Soto, in a library? Well I forgot to take my camera so I was forced to return. In the interest of good journalism and all…

The Blue Cow coffee shop is in the lobby of the library. It is large and sunny and very comfortable. The colors are warm and welcoming; browns, golds, and yellows. It s sort of a Texas Meets Italia decor.

Nothing At All To Do with Coffee or Tea…

22 October 2009

O..k. I need a bit of rant space. This is it…

Several years ago Marc and I met a young man in a coffee shop. He was on fire to join the military and couldn’t wait until he was 18 and could do so. He talked to us a lot about it, knowing that Marc and I had been military. His face lit up, his eyes shone, and he was animated.

There was only one problem. Mama.  Mama didn’t want Sonny-Boy to join the military. She couldn’t bear the thought of him in danger, away from home…and so she constantly told him why he couldn’t, shouldn’t go off to boot camp.

dreams-gone

Every month or so he would tell us how he was getting ready to go in…only it never happened. A few days ago I happened to see him, now in his 20s, in another coffee shop. No talk of the military. No animation. His eyes were dull, his face was without expression.

Drink Coffee Stay Young

22 October 2009

In the never-ending race to stay young Nestle thinks that baby-boomers will buy into the belief that their new coffee can bring back young looking skin.

mature-woman

I guess that they figured if people would believe Starbucks Via was as good as fresh brewed they would believe anything.

You can read the story at ABC News. I want to thank @ViewsNews on twitter for tweeting it.

Now, everyone under the age of 45 can leave the blog. The rest of you? We need to chat. This is getting embarrassing, people. We Baby Boomers are the first generation to wear mini skirts into our 60s and I have to say it isn’t flattering. Here is a newsflash…you don’t look 18 anymore and you haven’t for at least 25 years.

Deal with it. Coffee may make you energetic, it may make you more alert but the crows feet aren’t going anywhere, and that is o.k. I am tired if being part of the generation that never grew up. Peter Pan isn’t real and neither is everlasting youth. Be hot in your own skin at the age you are.

Tight abs are fleeting but coolness? That is forever.

New Coffee Shop in De Soto Texas

19 October 2009

Marc and I had heard that there was a new coffee shop in the next town but we hadn’t seen it. We prefer to shop/run errands there rather than our town for a variety of reasons. Anyway, they have worked hard to create a town center that would be the go to area in town and they have achieved it beautifully. It is called the Blue Cow. I have NO pictures because I went without my camera but I promise to remedy that tomorrow.

Coffee Cup of the Week

17 October 2009

We all need a reminder now and then that we are blessed…and just how much we are blessed. Autumn always reminds me of this as the kids and I study the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving just one more time. So, this week when I saw this cup in my wanderings I knew it was going to be featured today!
