Remember Honor Grounds Coffee?

31 July 2008

 honor grounds

I don’t know if you remember the review I did on Honor Grounds coffee.  The company donates to veteran’s organizations and is very involved with military support.

Whatever your opinion may be on war, veterans are important people.  I should know, Marc and are both veterans.  We spend a lot of time at the VA hospital because of Marc’s medical issues and, while our situation is difficult, there are so many others there at the hospital that absolutely are facing worse things than they did in Korea, or Nam, or the Gulf. Starbucks Ethiopia Sidamo

29 July 2008

starbucks ethiopian sidamo

I am sitting here this morning absolutely bleary eyed, hoping that the caffeine will soon jump start the gray matter.

Do you know that the baristas at our Starbucks don’t even know when they are closing? It seems very unfair to me..and then I wonder…is it an angle? I mean, are they hoping that by announcing closings that they will get people to rush to the store? Then, like an adolescent game playing girl they can “suddenly relent”….

Because you our customers have requested it..we well leave these stores open…

We’ll see. (more…)

What Makes a Tea Room Over the Top?

28 July 2008

 vintage china

Having owned a tea room this is a question that I think about often.  I do think we went to great lengths to be over the top.  The food was amazing, made with organics, flour that was freshly ground daily, real butter…

There were over 50 teas to choose from, and 25 coffees plus lattes and other specialty drinks…

And it was not what the people in the immediate area were looking for. Once again, location…location…location. (more…)

Saturday Surfing

 give away

I hope your week has been awesome!

We have been having temperatures in the 100s and more scheduled for next week.  I think it was 103 today.

You have to love these bog, old houses though.  Seriously, even without the air conditioning the design creates great circulation and it rarely gets above 85 in here.  Very do-able with ceiling fans and lots of ice water. (more…)

Documentary On How Numi Flowering Tea is Made

23 July 2008

rose

I have never had much luck with the flowering teas. We bought some for the tea room thinking that it would be an amazing addition to special tea parties. I ended up discontinuing them because I just was not pleased with the consistency of the opening of them. (more…)

Kidney Stones and Sweet Tea….

23 July 2008

ice

Nope, this is not a new recipes. :)
Apparently, according to doctors iced tea is one of the causes of kidney stones in people that are prone to getting them. It seems that tea contains oxalate which is a key chemical that produces kidney stones when coupled with dehydration and poor dietary habits. (more…)

Lifestyles Potluck:What's a Picnic without Sweet Tea?

22 July 2008

lime tea

There is, as far as I am concerned only one way to make iced tea and that is good old southern sweet tea. An iced tea by any other name just tastes…nasty.

But once you have reached the perfect tea you can do all kinds of amazing things with it! This is a light and refreshing summer drink that begins with a perfect half gallon of sweet tea. (more…)

Like Coffee? Like Tea? Like a Good Mystery?

21 July 2008

 girl reading

I love to read. I am so sad that I don’t have the time that I used to to just sit and read a book. Other than when we go to the VA, I am usually reading books ALOUD if at all. And those generally have vocabulary like: One Fish…Two Fish…Red Fish…Blue Fish…

Hardly stimulating for even my overworked mind.

Tiffany gave me the heads up about the Coffee House Mysteries.  That’s what friends are for, right?
