My Favorite Commercial form When I was Growing Up

27 March 2008

I explained on Baking Delights that Marc and I are going away for our anniversary this weekend so I would not be posting the blog surfing Saturday..

This is absolutely my favorite commercial from when I was a kid. I can remember sitting in front of the black and white t.v. watching in fascination…in fact..I knew what Red Rose Tea was before I understood that a Chatty Cathy Doll was the best gift ever.

I don;t know how many other mom’s were forced to buy Red Rose Tea by small girls that wanted to make sure the monkeys got paid..but I know my mother drank the stuff until we moved to Texas and could no longer buy it. Absolutely forced by my total loyalty to the monkeys.

Twinings Titillating Ads Create Racial Controversy "Over There"

26 March 2008

French lady

I am pretty clueless sometimes when it comes to ads. Twinings tea seems to have ruffled some feathers across the pond with their ads for Earl Grey and Lady Grey teas.

Tyrone is an African American who is working with the owner of a “proper tea shop”. According to this article, many felt that the ad had sexual content and was racial profiling, full of innuendo, and relied on the young man’s ethnicity to convey a sexual message.

I don’t know…here is one of the ads…what do you think? Is Tyrone a sexy black man, fulfilling white women’s fantasies? ‘Cause he looks like a nice guy but he doesn’t do a thing for me, personally.

 summer

I know it isn’t summer yet..but hey, it is in the 70s here all ready and summer can’t be far away, right?

Green tea makes a light, refreshing drink.  I prefer it in the summer to the winter..Winter and fall I much prefer a black based tea, especially chai.  Summer? Well now you need something cool, and fizzily refreshing. (more…)

Black Gold Coffee Documentary:Check Out this Trailer

24 March 2008

Coffee and newspaper

Black Gold is a documentary chronicling the coffee industry from the farmer to the Starbuck’s patron.

It has supposedly been on t.v. on several major stations, but I haven’t seen it. Not surprising, though..we don’t watch t.v…

Anyway, it seems like it is a very informative and eye-opening look at the coffee industry. Did you know that the three dollar cup of coffee you drink at Starbucks was only three CENTS in the pocket of the farmer that grew it? Check out this trailer for the movie….

I hope that your Easter is as wonderful as it can possibly be, and leave you with one of my favorite songs….

Surfing Easter Weekend

22 March 2008

 easter

Easter weekend is a busy time.  Not only are we getting ready for Easter for ourselves, but there is so much involvement with the church.  Flowers to arrange, productions to do, all kinds of stuff.  This year, Marc has to work after chruch and wo’t get home until late, so Easter dinner will be lower key, maybe even off-key, if you know what I mean.  But the most important thing about it is the celebration of new life.  The reseurrection of Christ gave man a chance at eternity, a  new beginning, a clean slate. Ham, jelly beans, and chocolate bunnies aside, that is worth celebrating. (more…)
